Commercial Sheep Enterprise

Collinsville is run on a commercial basis comprising of 22,000 merino ewes producing 10,000 merino wether lambs

 

Cropping

Collinsville’s cropping program consists of 3,500 hectares. This consists of wheat, barley, oats, canola, peas and lupins.

 

Irrigation

Irrigation program is run at North Booborowie and  is mainly used to background wether lambs coming into the feedlot

 

Feedlot

Expanding operations in agricultural and station areas, and establishing lamb feedlotting for the domestic market

 

Our Properties

COLLINSVILLE STATION: This is the home of where the famous Collinsville stud had its lustrous beginning. This pastoral holding consisting of the stations of Mallet, Willara, Pulpara, Ketchowla and Collinsville itself all situated in a rainfall zone of 228 mm. The terain varies from flat to hilly land with areas of mallee scrub and large saltbush and bluebush plains.

After heavy rain which occured in December 2004, small creeks beds that run through Collinsville become large torrents that spread out into floodwaters and lay in water beds for a period of time. This is where the breeding of the most famous genetic pool began. The station is now referred to as the factory of the sheep program.

STUD PARK/BELCUNDA: Stud Park is the hub of the Collinsville operations. It has outstanding improvements, consisting of dry land lucerne flats and excellent pastures. It is the marketing centre for the Collinsville operations. The sales office, breeding centre and selling complex are all located on this property. The field days and the annual ram sale are held at Stud Park each year.




BOOBOROWIE VALLEY: Encompassing Greenacres, North Booborowie and East Bungaree, the valley is the green heart of Collinsville and totalling an area of 1600 hectares. All of this country is comprised of prime, high production and versatile country and excellent Lucerne flats. The East Bungaree block is complete with 2 centre pivots covering 126ha. All of this country has been know for the lust Lucerne pastures. This is still continuing together with high yielding cereal crops.



RAZORBACK: “The Razorback” consists of a number of parcels of land which have been acquired by the Dare family, whose ancestors were pioneers of the district, through several generations. Part of “Bryces” area was originally taken up by Billy Dare in the late 1800’s. “Weepara”, on which most improvements are located, was purchased in 1946. Since then, “Razorback”, “Glendare” (another old Dare property), “Dunstan’s”, “Griffen’s”, “Banbury” and “Radford’s” have been purchased.

The property is now run as a sheep and cereal enterprise with the “Collinsville” sheep being run on the property. The property is attractively situated in undulating to hilly country with natural blue and peppermint gums and picturesque vistas.

ARCOONA: Arcoona Station consists of 3505 square km’s or 350,000 hectares and is broken into 40 main paddocks. The township of Woomera is situated right in the middle of the property with a third of the property being in the Woomera Prohibited defence area.

The property runs approximately 15,000 breeding ewes plus replacements. There are 100 shorthorn Hereford cross cows that are mated to Angus Bulls.
The station is managed by Adam Willis and there are usually 2 full time employees.

Arcoona produces 650 to 700 bales of wool per year and the average rainfall is 150mls per year. The property turns over 6500 to 7500 wether lambs per year which are destined for the Booborowie feedlot.
