Commercial Sheep Enterprise The Handbury organisation are realists and realise the merino stud industry is not what is once was although highly committed to the future of this. Collinsville pastoral enterprises are run on a commercial basis comprising of 22,000 merino ewes producing 10,000 merino wether lambs which are backgrounded on crop stubbles and then fed through the feedlot based at Booborowie. Some of this product is fed through to the Handbury restaurants based at Moonah Links and The Sands golf courses in Victoria. Our cast for age ewes are mated at the Razorback property to exotic breeds with lambs going into the feedlot or ewe lambs entering into breeding programs on the Western District properties of Victoria. The majority of our pastoral ewes are mated to poll merinos for ease of management.Collinsville also has 120 Angus breeding cows situated on our pastoral property located east of Mt Bryan which are all mated to Waygu Bulls. The calves from these are back grounded at the property at Lucindale before being put into feedlots for export to Japan. |
